Q: Could someone tell me the difference between a Honda Accord EX-L and a Honda EX?
Could someone tell me what the “L” designates? Also, is there a way to tell (besides the VIN) what were standard options on a given year and model Honda, based on the LX, DX, EX designation? We’re interested in Accords and Civics. Thanks.

A: The L designates that the car has leather. (but it also adds a few other options).

For the 08 Accord, the EX-L offers a few more features over the EX, Leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, and leather shift knob (5spd). Automatic dimming rear view mirrors, heated front seats, 270 watt 7-Speaker system, exterior temperature display.

For the 2008 Civic, the difference between EX and EX-L is that the EX-L has all leather, heated mirrors, and heated front seats.

Click on the car you want, and then the year, and then towards the top it has a little pull down box allowing you to choose the “submodel” choose one (ex: DX, LX, EX, etc) and it will give you all the standard options on it for that given model and year.

Q: Can you change the remote code from 2001 Honda accord, which we wrecked, to 2006 Honda EX our new car?

A: Check with the service department of your Honda dealer to see it the remotes are compatible. If they are, the dealership can reprogram them for you!

Q: How much should 94 Honda Accord EX Automatic Transmission and installation cost?
i have a 1994 Honda Accord EX and it needs a new transmission. as of right now the first gear does not work. i took it to a guy i know that is a mechanic for a car dealer, he work on cars on the side at home. he said he’ll charge me $1,500 for the new transmission and for the installation. does this sounds fair enough? should i go ahead and have it done? should i go ahead and have him go ahead and start looking for the used transmission? he said that as of right now i should drive the car until it cant be driven and then replace the transmission. just the first gear that doesnt work. A: Do this. Contact a dealer and get them to give you a quote on the cost to do this work with a factory rebuilt trans. Then knock off a minimum of 1/3 and thats the fair price for the job. This guy is going to hunt around for a used trans…. guaranteed its not going to be factory rebuilt used, but something he had pulled from a salvage yard. Unless he will guarantee the replacement unti for 1 year, I’d be leary or buying lead undies.

Q: What can you tell me about the 2001 Honda Accord EX Coupe?
I am in the market for reliable and cheap used car. I found a 2001 Honda Accord EX Coupe that has never been in an accident or anything. It has 58,000 on it and is selling for $9,895. Would this be worthwhile?

A: Accords are good cars, but I would stay away from that generation Honda Accord.

The car has problem with:
Premature Alternator bearing failure
Passenger seat SRS sensor going out
Pilot bearing failure
Premature Transmission failure (Honda extended the transmission warranty to 100,000 miles, but only applies to the first buyer)

Q: What is the whining and grinding noise coming from my 2003 Honda Accord EX?
I have a 2003 Honda Accord EX with a 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. During this past winter it has started making a loud whining noise when I back up and when I drive forward or brake, the car makes a loud, high-pitched metal grinding sound. The brake pads have been checked and are fine. What could be causing these noises? Does anyone else have these same issues with their Accords?

A: how long ago were the brake pads checked? Last winter? It could very well be that the brake pads have worn to the wear sensors if tis been a while since they were last checked. the wear sensors are on the inside brake pads and usually make the noise you describe when backing up.

also, did they check the front and rear brake pads or only the front? You have rear brake pads on that car as well and they are usually the ones that wear out first because they start out thinner than the front. If they only checked the front have the back brake pads checked.

I’m almost certain you’ll find it is the brake pads. if you’ve had them replaced with non-Honda pads then that could be the problem as well. Non-Honda semi-metallic pads make horrible screeching noises so if the brakes were changed and they didn’t use the Honda brake pads then the brakes would look thick enough but the problem would be that the material of the non-Honda pads are too hard and that’s why you have the noise. If you change the brakes to the Honda pads you won’t have the noise.

A: offer them 11800 out the door (if dealership)and if they dont to sell it. walk. sit in the parking lot. wait till they come running out. :) if private seller you can go as low as 10000

Q: What size are the door speakers for my 91 honda accord ex?
I went to car toys today, asked them, they said “Six and a half”. So, I proceeded to find the 6 1/2 speakers, bought them, came home, spent 20 minutes taking my door panel off, only to find the 6 1/2 were almost twice as big as what would fit. The magnet on the 6 1/2 were the size of the entire speaker already in it.

So, what size do I need for the doors? Its a 2 door, 1991 Honda Accord EX.

A: I used to work for an oil company, and I can tell you that ALL gas comes from the same place, the only difference is the additive. Do note that no matter where you buy gas from, they are required to have some kind of additive in the fuel, although the major brands additives are superior.

The best advice I’ve heard about fuel is to switch brands for a tank-full every 3-4 fill-ups. Each companies additive will leave SOME deposits, but the competitors additive should be different enough that it cleans the left behind deposits. I personally use Chevron, but about once a month I’ll stray over to the Shell or 76 station.

Also there is no reason to run higher octane then is recommended in your owners manual. You’re not giving your car a “treat” by putting a tank full of supreme in it from time to time, so save your money and use the minimum required octane.

No one is stealing my car.. I live out in the boonies and infact…. I own a dealership and this is one of the cars on my lot… No one here can figure it out. There are no tech bulltions on it.

A: Someone is trying to steal your car! The doors are locked! Have you checked to see if there were any people lurking around your car when the alarm went off? If you see a guy with a crowbar or a coat hangar near your car, he’s trying to steal it! THAT is your problem! Call the police.

A: Just go to any alarm install shop, they can do it for you, that shouldn’t cost more than a couple hundred bucks

A: Actually, the time period for the body style was ‘98-’02, but the 1999 model was rated excellent in every department, including transmission, by consumer reports. In fact, ‘98 was rated as average, trans. wise. The major problems came in the ‘00-’02 Accord, with ‘01 being the worst. Based on consumer reports, and I have found them to be very reliable, I would recommend the ‘99, because there is not one thing rated below “better than average.” That says a lot.

Q: How to Replace the passenger Side Mirror (mirror only) on a 2000 Honda Accord EX?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX with a broken mirror on the passenger side. I bought a new mirror glass, and I need help installing the new glass into the mirror housing. The back of the mirror has 3 holes to match up with the electric motor. I applied some pressure to the mirror trying to “snap” it into place, but I didn’t want to break the $50 mirror.

Please advise me on steps to install this mirror.

A: For the neons not sure on price but its a pretty easy DYI project and for the rims check out Tirerack.com you can see the rims on your car so you can get an idea of what you want and what it would look like on your car. Sorry really can’t help out on the price best thing I could say is go to a custom stereo/aftermarket shop and get a quote.
