Q: mitsubishi ECLIPSE?
i was wondering is the mitsubishi, eclipse 2006 is a good car? i want to buy it but i have heard a lot of bad comments about the car! Im also planning on buying it used for about 14,000 is that a good deal?

A: most of the bad things I have said about the car is that
they ruined it in 2000 when they got rid of the 4g63 engine they had been using in them.
it was redesigned to be like the chrysler sebring because that was the top selling convertible in the country at the time.

not really a great car anymore, not that bad either, just don’t pay to much for it.

Q: mitsubishi eclipse?
i have a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse and i wana lower it about 1 to 2 inches…….what do i have to buy and what should i expect to pay? also does anyone know what the cost of installation would be?

A: All you need is a bigger girlfriend for the passenger seat :)

Q: Mitsubishi eclipse?
i have a red 2001 mitsubishi eclipse in excellent condition….im looking to get neon underbody lights for it and had decided on red ones until i found out they are illegal in florida…….what other colors would look good?
just checked and blue is also illegal any color bseides red and blue because those are only for emergency vehicles

A: Try white, yellow or orange. That’s a bummer that you can’t use blue or red. You can get those colors and not have them turned on while driving. Spend a little more money and you can get the multi-color lighting kit.

Q: Mitsubishi Eclipse?
how long will a Mitsubishi Eclipse last?

A: Since everything varies from car to car, driver to driver, the better question would be: Generally speaking, how reliable is a Mitsubishi Eclipse?

The Eclipse has become more reliable through each revision, much like most other make/models out there. The 1st gen (1990-1994) and 2nd gen (1995-1999) were not known for their reliability….at all. They were more known for their looks, performance and sportiness; especially the turbo (GS-T, GS Turbo, GSX) and AWD (GSX) versions. I own a 1995 Eclipse GS-T with 100,000 miles on it and it runs great, but just about everything else around the engine has fallen apart at one point or another. I won’t list everything here but here’s a start: O2 sensor went out (twice), thermostat went out, driver’s door panel fell through (twice), hatchback’s liftgate no longer stays up, stereo’s equalizer lights went out, volume control sometimes doesn’t work, hit “play” and sometimes it switches to FM instead (that button is just below the play button), perge slyinoyad valve needed to be replaced, etc. All in all, these Eclipses were great engineered cars but poorly built and assembled.

The 3rd gen (2000-2005) went away with turbos and AWD for a more conservative, simplier approach. No doubt this was too minimize maintainence issues, keep costs low and sell to a more braoder audience. The first year was a success — with record sales and rave reviews for its build and less rattles as the previous generations. Unfortunately, sales plummeted therafter. Most folks say, Mitsubishi dropped the ball on this generation because it lost that fun-to-drive quotient of a light 4-cylinder engine coupled with a potent turbo and AWD. The fact was, the 6 clyinder was just as potent as the turbocharged 4 it replaced. But by then, the 4G63 engine found in the first 2 gens received cult status by many enthusiats for its durability and able to handle significant peformance mods without (literally) breaking under pressure.

The 4th and current gen Eclipse (2006-present) is the most powerful and fastest version yet. The top of the line GT model gets over 260bhp, whereas the ones before it had 190-210bhp. Unfortunately, it’s also as porkly as ever, with a curb weight of nearly 3600lbs! That’s more in line with a large-class vehicle (think Toyota Avalon) than what you would expect from a sporty car. Price, as you might expect, is also up. The jury is still out on how reliable this car is, since it’s too new to tell. But my prediction is it will be just as good, if not better, than the 3rd gen.

Q: MItsubishi eclipse?
wat kind of transmission oil should i buy for my mitsubishi eclipse rs with a 2.0 engine.

A: they use “75w 90 GL4″ gear oil in the Manual 5 speed ATF +3 in Auto 4speed

(do not use gl5 its not the same or better)

I like to use mobil1 gear oil or redline mt90,royal purple and valvoline will work too but not as good, the factory fill is a full synthetic

they come in regular and synthetic just like motor oil all the specs are right on front and back of the bottles

Q: MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE…………………………………?
I have a problem with my 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It runs normal than after a while it heats up and turns off. When I try to start it, it will not start. Then after letting it cool down, it will start without any problem. So what could the problem be?

A: I’d pull the ECU and remove the 2 covers to inspect the circuit board for burn marks from the capacitors leaking. It’s very common and every car will eventually have the problem.

Q: What is the top speed of a 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse?
What is the top speed of a 1996 Mitsubishi eclipse compared to a 1995 Mitsubishi eclipse and the 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse? So pretty much what are the top speeds of all three?

A: all three are the same, and what model, the top end models, gt, gsx will have a slight higher top speed,

base models, 120/30
top end models, 140/5

had a 00 eclipse rs 5 speed, would do 135 no problem with 1500/2000 rpms left but didnt have enough power to trap any higher.

Q: When does a Mitsubishi eclipse start to have problems?
I was thinking about buying a 1998 Mitsubishi eclipse rs, but the only problem with it is that it needs a new timing belt. A mechanic told me dad that once it needs the timing belt everything else in the car starts to have problems. Can you share your input or tell me if you have a eclipse how your car is doing. Thank you for your time.

A: I own a 2001 eclipse and LOVE MY CAR. Bought it brand new and now has over 125K miles. If the one you are considering has been well maintained, I’d highly consider it.
I do the regular oil changes, tire rotations, etc and have had only regular issues, such as freeon, brakes, suspension. It gets AWESOME gas mileage (29 on the highway.)

I’d warn you that mine seems to go through tires, but I buy the performance tires.

Q: What engin can i put into my mitsubishi eclipse 95?
I would like to have more power in my eclipse… And im new to mitsubishi so i dont know what i should do. Its currently the stock 4 cyl.

A: Just put a few car batteries and you’ll get more power. Maybe also instead of gas, put nos in the tank.

Q: How much will it cost to fix my mitsubishi eclipse and stop it burning oil?
my 1999 mitsubishi eclipse RS is burning oil. how much does it cost to fix this?

A: DONT SPEND MONEY GO TO A SHOPE LIKE NAPA AND BUY A BOTTLE OF LUCAS PUT IT IN EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE ITS ABOUT $14.99 IT WILL WORK IT WILL STOP THE OIL BURNING

Q: How to rebuild a 98 mitsubishi eclipse spyder engine?
I own a mitsubishi eclipse spyder and sometime soon I was thinking about improving the motor but first I would like to rebuild it to get the original power back. Are there any guides, books, manuals or any kind of step by step instructions out there that I can follow to rebuild my engine and how to improve it?
It is not a turbo by the way.

A: If it’s a V-6, watch the crank bearings. There’s a batch of bearings that are too thin on the shoulder of the center main, allowing the crank to move forward & backward in the block, as you shift the tranny. AND, how about buying a remanufactured short block, and just swapping the top side stuff ??

Q: What are the differences between Mitsubishi Eclipse models?
Hi I have been wanting to get a 97-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
What are the Differences between the GS, GT, GTS, and GSX models?
I do not want a turbo because I’m going to turn the car into a cosmetic show car not a drag racer.

A: There is no GT or GTS model for the 95-99 years.

GT and GTS are only 00-09 designations.

For 1995-1999, they are:

Base = No wing, no power anything. 420a Engine non turbo, FWD

RS = adds wing, and some features. 420a Engine non turbo, FWD

GS = Same as RS but with power windows, locks, etc. 420a Engine non turbo, FWD

GS Spyder = Convertible, with Mitsu 4G64 Engine.

GST = sort of same as GS, but with Mitsu 4G63 Turbo engine. FWD

GST Spyder = Convertible with Mitsu 4G63 Turbo engine. FWD

GSX = all the options of other models but but with Mitsu 4G63 Turbo engine and AWD

If you don’t want turbo, stick with the Base, RS, GS or GS Spyder.

Q: Can you put a v6 in a mitsubishi eclipse that was origanlly a 4 cyl?
I have a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse with a 4 cylinder engine in it. I want to drop a v6 engine of an eclipse gt in it. Is this possible? Will it fit? Price?

A: I’m sure it’s possible, but you may need new motor mounts to fit the bigger engine. It might be a tight fit but it should work. I’m not sure on the price, it depends on where you take and where you get the engine.

Q: What size speakers does my 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS use?
Hi, does anybody know what size speakers my 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS uses? As far as I know, it has 2 small speakers on the dash near the windshield, 2 medium sized ones on the door panels, and 2 large ones on the back side panels.

If not, is there a website that will give me that information? Thanks

A: There are two options for audio on the Eclipse, with or without the infinity sound system. From your description it sounds like you do have the infinity system installed. The fronts are 4 inches, the panels are 6 and 3/4 and the backs are 6X9. Make sure when you get the front speakers to make that they have internal crossovers so they don’t get distorted by low frequency sound. They sell little bass blocker adapters if you need it.

Q: What is the code for a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse radio?
I had some trouble with my battery and now my radio isn’t working. It says i need the code for it to work. Does anyone know what the code is for:
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

MR# 337271

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A: Call 1-888-MITSU2005 & explain that you need the radio code because of your battery problem. Have your vin number and the radio serial number in hand. They will be able to give you the code.
