Q: Ford Mustang convertible rental in the USA?
I am driving between Las Vegas and San Francisco as part of my honeymoon next year and would like to hire a Ford Mustang convertible to do the job. This would obviously mean picking up the car at one location and dropping it off at another. Can anyone recommend a car hire company which offers this service please? I don’t think the usual car rental companies (Avis, Hertz, Budget, etc) have Ford Mustang convertibles.
Many thanks.
A: Hertz usually has the best deals for one-way rentals. Hertz can also arrange for a Mustang convertible, but you may have to request one in advance AND confirm your request the day before you expect to collect the car.
Hope you have a great trip!

Q: Does a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible have a CD player?
I’m am looking to buy a used 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible in the next 3 years and was wondering if it can live up to my music needs. If it doesn’t have a CD player, is it possible to install one? If so, about how much will it cost me? All possible answers are wanted. Thanks!
A: As mentioned, the ‘66 Mustang didn’t have a CD player available, CD’s weren’t around then. You can have an aftermarket stereo installed, including a trunk mounted CD changer, without cutting up the dash. Check out Mustang parts places such as National Parts Deports or Mustangs Plus. They will have all the stuff you need. A good system for one of these will run you from about $200-$800, depending on the stereo and options you choose.
Q: Cost to replace transmission on 2000 ford mustang convertible?
i’m looking into buying a 2000 ford mustang convertible. it needs its transmission rebuilt, or a new transmission put in, does anybody know how much it would cost to get a transmission taken out of a car, rebuilt, and put back in, or how much it would cost to get the transmission out, and a new transmission put in?
A: buy a hardtop
Q: If you buy a new Ford Mustang convertible, can you get a hard top for when you don’t want the convertible roof?
I have seen some convertible cars in the past where they have hard tops that can be placed on them. So basically you always have the option if you don’t want to be using the convertible. This might be something you would choose if it were cold weather, or perhaps for added security.
Does anyone know if a product like this is available for the new Ford Mustangs?
A: The extra Hardtop for Mustang convertibles are not available from Ford, however there are a couple of independent companies that manufacture custom hardtops.
Smoothline is one of them.

Q: Should I take 97′ Ford Explorer or the 01 Mustang Convertible?
I am moving to the mountains of North Carolina for school and have the option of taking my current 2001 Ford Mustang convertible or taking my older 97′ Ford Explorer.
I am not sure which to choose. Both get near the same gas mileage and really aren’t the ideal cars for snow. The explorer has more space but the mustang is easier to drive and park. What do you think?
A: take the Mustang, it’s not that hard to drive in the snow, Just as long as you know how to handle it
Good luck!
Q: 2004 ford mustang convertible 40th anniversary good deal?
is it a wise idea to buy a 3.9 v6 2004 ford mustang convertible 40th anniversary for 12k even including everything tax title leather etc. has 40k miles? what is the difference in the v6 base model and the 40th anniversary model. please help, i might buy tomorrow. i thought the only v6 in the 2004 was a 3.8 am i wrong?
A: Many 2004 Mustangs got 40th anniversary badging but not all of them are 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mustangs!
The special edition models were only available in black, white, and crimson red. They have body-color mirrors (like the 03-04 Cobra). They have gold hood and side stripes and the same color gold on the wheels. Unlike a lot of Special Edition Mustangs, this package was available on the v6 Mustang. Ford stated that only 5700 40th Special Editions were to be produced.
If it doesn’t have the gold stripes, or it isn’t white, black, or red, then it’s just a regular v6 convertible Mustang.
The 3.9 engine was introduced early in model year 2004 in the Mustang at the same time the Freestar was introduced. The stroke increased slightly and the piston changed slightly. With this almost negligible change in displacement the performance was the same as 3.8 and all external engine parts are the same as the 3.8
The way you can tell whether a 2004 Mustang has a 3.8 or a 3.9 is by the 8th digit in the VIN. It will be a “4″ for a 3.8 v6 and a “6″ for a 3.9 v6.
Kelly Blue book says that retail for the car would be approximately 14k if it was in excellent condition *and* it was really the 40th package. So if the car is really nice and you like it then it’s a fair price. I would still try talking them down, ask them to throw in a free extended warranty, or free routine maintenance for the next 2 years, or anything else to make the deal sweeter.
Q: How much is a 1973 Ford Mustang convertible?
I have a 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible.
Its got very low miles. I think something around 20,000.
its yellow and is in great shape.
runs very smooth and there is no major rust
interior is black leather in perfect condition!
great car. i just need to know about how much its worth
A: you know those speedometers roll over after 100k don’t you? it would be rare to have that low of miles, but it does and can be documented, I would guess the value at $20k, that’s not knowing the options.. and with that low miles, there shouldn’t be any wear..it’s almost a new car..
with over 100k I would have to say $8 to $12k
Q: When a car rental company says “Ford Mustang Convertible or similar” what are “similar” models of cars?
renting a convertible for a few days, looking to know what other models are considered on par or competitors of the ford mustang convertible.
A: the most common is the Chrysler Sebring Convertible
Enterprise has some Toyota Camry solaras and some mitsubishi eclipses.
my local office had a Saab 9-3 but that is a rarity.
Q: Difference bewteen Ford Mustang GT Deluxe Convertible and Premium Convertible?
What is the difference bewteen the Deluxe and the Premium version of the Ford Mustang Convertible? http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/mustang/
A: All it is really is a styling package. There is nothing performance wise that makes them different. They are just different options that are available like different rim sizes, DVD navigation, etc. Overall they are the same car, that does the same thing.
Q: Where is the amp on a 92 Ford Mustang (convertible) with premium sound?
The radio in my 92 Mustang convertible went dead a week ago. Now it works intermittently, for about 20 minutes or so, only to die again. I’m told the system has an external amp and that’s what’s going (the receiver appears to be still working). So, before I go junkyard hopping, does anyone know where the amp is? And is anyone making an aftermarket one that’s compatible with the stock system? Thanks for any replies.
A: the amp is under the radio behind the center stack
Q: How hard is it to replace the back glass of a 1994 ford mustang convertible?
The window has been sewn to the top. I’ve found a replacement glass from a salvage yard for a hundred dollars. Would it be better to find a entire top or can just the glass be replaced?
A: You can replace the glass only, I’d contact an upholstery shop.
Q: how do i make my 4 cylinder 1993 ford mustang convertible lx faster?
the only way i know how to do this is to get a v6 or v8 or use a manual transmission.. is there any other way possible i can make my car accelerate faster without getting a new engine or transmission? if so what do i do?
A: Look for a Merkur XR4Ti in the junkyards. They have exactly the same engine, except with a turbo. Thunderbird or Couger Turbo Coupes are the same story except that the later ones (‘87 and ‘88 I think) also had an intercooler, like the Mustang SVOs. If you can find one with a bad tranny or accident damage and a good motor, I would grab the entire engine. Make sure to grab the ECM and all the relevant portions of the wiring harness(careful, some ECMs will only work with either a manual or an auto tranny, not both). If you want to put a turbo (or a supercharger) on your existing motor, I would keep the boost very low unless you plan to rebuild the motor to handle the increased pressure and resulting extra strain.
Otherwise, you can add a few HP with high performance spark plugs and wires, a higher energy ignition coil, a low-resistance muffler (the good old turbo mufflers are cheap and work fine), and advance the timing a bit, but not enough to start the engine knocking. To advance the timing you may have to trick the ECM. I had to on my ‘91 Bronco by unplugging a connector while I advanced the timing and then reconnectig it after. These things won’t make a ‘Vette killer or anything, but they will make it a little faster, and you won’t need to open up the motor. You also might notice a slight improvement in gas mileage. I’ve done these things on several of my cars, and sometimes I got better mileage after. Good luck!
